Daniel Kern swung the plane around, facing Northeast. They were going to fly a round about way back to the ship, then touch down to refuel. Suddenly, targets were detected on his radar screen, missiles. He banked hard right, but the combined speed of the missiles and the planes necessitated destruction. The ballistic missile sliced through his left wing and exploded, rocking the craft sideways and into a downward spiral. Around him, shards of other planes fell smoking to the ground. The vibrations from the plane increased as the flames shrouding his wings ate towards the main fuel tank of the plane. Kern knew this was the end. Desperately, he reached below his seat and hit a small red button. Immediately, the cockpit blew open and the miniature rockets beneath the seat sprang to life. It carried him up, out of the burning plane and into the air. Then the last of the fuel was spent, and he ejected the seat from his body. Waiting a few careful seconds as he plunged to Earth, he pulled a small string by his ankle. The effect was immediate. His pack puffed out behind him, opening into a single red and white striped parachute. He was still about 15,000 feet up. He got control of the parachute, pulling several strings and steering for land. He looked skywards, noting the explosions overhead and the debris raining down around him. In the distance, near the horizon, he could swear he saw Atlantican ships chugging relentlessly towards him. That's when it struck him. This was the end of his life. No matter what happened from here on out - his life would be changed forever. They would capture him, interrogate him, torture him - and perhaps even then kill him in the end. He would be a prisoner of war for countless years, forced to bow down to his imprisoners. He thought of his wife, of his two year old son, and knew that his was a family well destroyed. The tears then came to his eyes, and he muttered curses to both Atlantica and Caliwestia. He muttered curses for the world, then prayed briefly for his son and his wife. Then, purposefully, he took his gun from his holster, rose it to his temple, and pulled the trigger.

Disaster stuck, instantly wiping out 13 of the 16 Super Hornets. Steve Craig, one of the pilots, knew they should have sent in a squadron of F-22 Raptors. They are nearly invisible to radar; they would almost certainly not have been spotted. He knew why their squadron had been chosen, though. The Super Hornet has a longer range due to the larger amount of fuel it carries. It is also a carrier-based plane with excellent anti-ship capabilities and maneuverability. Now he had a decision to make. Should they fly back to the carrier, or should they plow on, taking out at least some of the reinforcing ships? He decided that the remainder of his squadron would be better off flying back to the carrier. If they continued long on their current course, they wouldn't have enough fuel to make it back. In addition, the enemy ships were sure to be well armed: imagine their power if they could inflict this much damage from over a hundred km away. Craig sucked in some air, then sighed. It had been a job well done (on both sides). They had taken out two enemy ships. Unfortunately, they had run into some unexpected "turbulence" on the way back.

An hour and a half later, him and the two other pilots were on the flight deck of the CSW America. They stated what had happened to them, and the approximate location of the enemy ships.

Jeffrey Davis, commander of the CSW La Jolla ducked his head through the doorway of his submarine. He entered the main control room, then contacted other ships in the fleet. The nuclear reactor in the rear of the submarine throbbed restlessly, yet the sound cloaking technology of the submarine rendered it virtually silent. The La Jolla was on a mission, along with several other submarines several kilometers away. His communications officer prattled away with his keyboard and headset, his fingers dancing over the keys. He looked up briefly, acknowledging his commander's presence. Davis nodded, then watched as the output became "NOW!!"

An officer pulled a lever, and Davis felt the submarine rise steadily, then slow. They had to move quickly. Another officer raised the periscope, then shouted "Number 1 Tube Fire..... NOW!" Upon his command, a torpedo erupted from within the submarine, ripping a line of foam across the water towards the Atlantican carrier fleet. Davis wasted no time steering the sub according to the man's directions. Another torpedo was loosed, then another and another. Davis had just enough time to run up to the periscope, push the operator aside, and watch as torpedo after torpedo rammed into the enemy ships. Then, the submarine plunged, rapidly sinking as far as it could. The nuclear powered submarine sank to below the usually considered "safe distance" just to be sure. He gunned up the throttle, and the submarine silently disappeared in the murky sea.

The ingenuity of the attack had been in the coordinated structure of six nuclear submarines all rising to the surface, firing, and submerging once more rapidly. The surprise coordinated strike would surely have heavily damaged if not sunken the aircraft carriers and dealt similar blows to the destroyers in the fleet.

The submarines once more dispersed, unrelentlessly prowling the waters for enemy ships.

The Topsailian invasion had begun. They had noticed the troops assemble over the last few days, and since tensions were high, defense preparations were made all along the Eastern Line, including New Mexico. Minefields had been laid along the border, and a few troops had been stationed near major cities. But for now, the Topsailian attack went unhindered across the desert.

Colonel Jim Stewart listened as reports came in about the invasion. He noted with interest the complete lack of air support. Minutes later, several Predator drones were in the air, climbing to 25,500 feet. They spaced themselves across the desert, along the line of attack. Each was burdened with extra Hellfire missiles, and once in range, the released missiles into the front ranks of the incoming tanks and infantry. Each precision-guided missile hit its target, and soon the wrecks of several tanks lay littered across the front. The mines and the wreckage would slow the invading army, and the drones would return with missiles. Soon, several fighters would be launched, and the military would deploy men to the front to fight a war on friendly territory for the first time in decades.

Klaus Adler condemns the action taken by Topsail. The attack on El Fiji Grande, the unproken attack.
Diplomats are sent to El Fiji Grande to negotiate an alliance,

"Thank you, the alliance was unsure due to a power-outage during the call."

Klaus receives news about the offer. He pulls 800,000 men out of the reserves, and sends them to El Fiji Grande.

The Parliament of the Great Northern Federation (GNF) was alive with the chattering of senators and representatives of the Federation about the war in the pacific. Rising tensions between the Caliwestans, an oil supplier to the North American Territories, and the Atlanticans, one of the most prominent trade centers of the world, were killing each other. What was worse, the Topsailians were getting involved in the war against Caliwesta, and the Russians and Germans were gearing up for war against the Atlanticans.

The Topsailian president personally asked Oslo Gustaf, King of Sweden and the GNF, for aid in the war in North America. The two men had been friends, but the fact that President Williams thought that Oslo had complete control of the country, a power that Oslo neither wanted nor had, were seriously misguided.

Their neighbors to the south and to the east would also be enemies if the Federation were to join with Atlantica and Topsail. There could easily be another World War II all over again, even though the Federation planes were American designed (and a few built), and the navy in the area would be both the most numerous and strongest. The Germans and Russians would outnumber him on the ground, however, so he would have to maintain constant air superiority if he didn't want Stockholm rendered in flames.

Already diplomatic relations were hanging on a thread, both sides expecting the GNF to make a move or suffer serious consequences. Surprisingly, the war hungry Federation didn't want to go to war, as the consequences of entering one side or the other would prove tremendously dire.

"All hail King Oslo Gustaf, First of his name, Lord of Sweden, King of the Great North, and Leader of the Federation Armed Forces! All rise!"

King Oslo would be attending the Special Parliament Calling himself, as evident of his ceremonial military dress appearing among the crowd of press and senator alike.

The Modern Tech War: The Pacific Rim Mk. 2 - Page 2 Img-alt-the-kings-speech_095741411704.jpg_article_singleimage

He took a seat at the far end of the Parliament building, behind a table and with his closest advisers. "Be seated Ladies and Gentlemen," he said, in a surprisingly deep voice for his size, a whopping 5 feet 10 inches. //See the pun? XD// A commotion of moving fabric and flesh followed as the procession took their seats.

"My lord," one of the senators in the room, a Mr. Kilian Grau, said, "it does us all good to see you again."

"Likewise, Mr. Grau. Now, to discuss the matters of this new World War," Oslo said, picking up a gavel to quiet the coming storm of commotion.

Just as he thought, men and women in the procession came into an uproar of their views on the situation. Oslo quieted down the procession by slamming the gavel down. It took five minutes to calm them.

"I understand this is a dire subject for our country, but we don't need to fight ourselves! Now, if you would please, CALMLY state your concerns!" Oslo yelled.

There were men lobbying for going to war on the Atlantican and Topsailian side, on the Russian and German side, and to completely remain neutral.

Oslo voiced his concerns, "We CANNOT remain neutral, as our neighbors to the south are as war like as we are and will most likely choose our side for us. I understand the Canadians not wanting to fight the Topsailians as we are bordering on their continent, but we also have to consider the fact of a combined military strike on our land here in Europe. Not only can the Atlanticans hold their own in their country, but if they've got the balls, they can launch a full on attack here as well, just like the Topsailians. Either way, our people WILL die, I just want to know who we're dying with."

After several hours of debate, a decision was made...

12:20 March 4th, 2014
The Blue House, Seoul, Atlantica

"Sir," General Charles Marin, the commander of the Northern Army, reported to the Princeps. "From the northern borders, the movement of a massive force was spotted - somewhere around Lake Baikal. Our intelligence is estimating that Hockesin, along with Grothbord, is preparing a massive war over our northern border."

The Princeps sighed. "Now we've got enemies to the north - we already have enough of Caliwestia to the east."

"Well, that's the reality," General Marin said. "To our luck, we have already converted much of our industry towards arms manufacturing - with this, we would be able to have enough munitions, fighters, warships, tanks and so on. For the manpower, all reserve forces are scrambled up, while drafting is in progress over all of Atlantica."

"Good," the Princeps said. "Any news from the Pacific?"

"Super Hornets from Caliwestia have been shot down by our destroyer," General Nguyen Chi Minh reported, while he seemed to be holding back something. "However, the Caliwestian forces seems to have struck our carrier strike force: however, due to Captain Nakamura's and Captain Kim's... sacrifice, only one frigate and destroyer respectively had been lost to the torpedo's attacks."

"Any commands?" Admiral Tojo Hitachi, Commander of the Pacific Fleet, asked.

"For the Hockesin-Grothbord Forces around Lake Baikal," the Princeps said with certainty and hidden anger. "Prepare up the defenses to the maximum - complex webs of minefields, ambushes around the plains and so on. Also, scramble up a legion K-2A1's and K-21's toward the battle line, along with an air strike group. For the navy... prepare a new attack from Sakhalin."

"And for the Pacific," the Princeps turned to Admiral Tojo Hitachi. "Prepare a secondary strike against Hawaii: they would still be able to attack us soon enough. Organize a Marine Legion for this act.

"Anything for the diplomatic matters?" Minister Charles Akulov asked.

"For diplomacy," the Princeps said. "Contact the President of Normandy, along with the Modern Archaemenid Empire: they are needed."

13:14, March 4th, 2014

The Second Carrier Strike Force - which held the U.R.S. Zeus - sailed through the day, preparing a strike from the Marshall Islands. Though an unexpected attack from Caliwestian atomic submarines slowed them down a little, they were still much alive: thanks to sacrifices made from two captains - Captain Nakamura and Captain Kim - the carrier and much of the carrier strike force was still pretty much alive.

"So far we are alive, which is good," Admiral Magellan IV, Admiral of the Second Carrier Strike Force, said, while looking at the long range radars. "There is a Caliwestian carrier force to the north as well - based on the Super Hornets' movement, that's an explicit fact."

"We could be able to take them down in a matter of minutes, given the order," Lieutenant Charles Caligo said. "With the F-25N's and the F-60 Gyrfalcons, the carrier forces would be deteriorated into chaos."

"You know what? That's a good idea," Admiral Magellan IV said, clasping his hands. "Rev up the strike."

A few minutes later, dozens of stealth fighters of the Atlantican Navy - 12 F-25N's forming the tip of the spear, while 24 F-60 Gyrfalcons stood as the main strike force - began to scramble toward the northeast, heading for the Caliwestian carrier.

22:30, March 4th, 2014
220 km North of Ulaanbaatar

Through the night skies of Mongolia, a strike group of fighters and bombers - from the Atlantican Air Force - began to scramble through the skies in supersonic speed. The bomber force consisted of 12 B-10 stealth bombers, while the bulk of the fighters were made of F-25 Ghost Birds and F-60 Gyrfalcons. To their sides stood 28 UF-1 Dark Sword drones - the drones that critically took out Honolulu.

"Entering Hockesin airspace, prepare to fire standoff weapons," Colonel William C. Nakamura said, from his F-25. "Lock onto designated targets with the EOTS and take them down."

Through the EOTS (Electro-Optical Targeting System), the fighters and the drones began to lock onto their targets. Once all of them were located and locked on, the fighters struck their main weapons - several advanced guided small diameter bombs, capable of flying a range of 150 kilometers until finally striking in with assorted munitions. After going through a few seconds of rocket motor propulsion, the bombs began to glide through the skies like daggers.

The bombers also began to launch strikes: on various points of the new Hockesin-Grothbord forces, they fired up long-range standoff weapons and the same advanced guided small diameter bombs. However, they were refitted with cluster bombs as their warheads, which allowed extra destruction over a large area.

Once the attack had been done, the entire strike force scrambled out toward the east, zipping through the air in Mach 1.5.

Alliance Command
Sanctum, Australia (Formally Sydney)
President Bradley Middleton

After some Americans seceded from the union they moved to the Australian continent and peacefully took over giving the Aussies to choice to swear loyalty to the Alliance or forced to leave. of course most became loyal to the budding alliance.

President Middleton sat at his desk and read his daily reports and glanced at his schedule. he shook his head and sighed "another jammed packed day....board meeting, military funding meetings, press reports, not to mention the State of the new Union"

Scott Peters the presidents aid walked in to the office and placed a Naval stamped folder in front of him "Sir, the first Naval battle group intercepted a distress call from the U.R.C.G. Hampton near Wake Island"

Middleton looked up and replied "any contact with Atlantican command?"

"None yet"

"ok move the 1st fleet in to investigate"

Alliance 1st Naval Battle Group
Near Wake Island

The 1st Naval Battle Group consisted of 2 Aircraft Carriers loaded with F-22 Raptors and F-35 lightning Naval VTOLs, 7 Destroyers, 2 Spy and communication vessels, 5 Typhoon Class submarines, 5 cruisers loaded with Tomahawk Guided Cruise Missile, 9 Frigates with 70MM cannons.

Fleet Admiral Dan Palmer looked off in the horizon at the endless blue aboard of the MNV Hunter drinking his first coffee of the morning.

"Sir, incoming message from Sanctum" Said the Communications Officer

"Patch it in,PO2"

the Bridge Bull horns squelched briefly and a voice came over the P.A. "Admiral Investigate the distress call from the Hampton"

"You heard the man....send in the Stealth Frigates and see what the hell is goin on"
