Re: Parliamentary-Style Debate Current Topics
Ok. I hope my style of debate conforms to what Atlantica means by "parliamentary". Because my 26 were approved, I will begin with this one as it was part of that list:
J.) Going forward, how should the US handle immigration policies in general? With regards to Latinos?
My stance: I don't think race/ethnicity should have anything to do with it. Rather, it should be entirely based by education. Anyone who is either smarter than a certain degree or has a degree in a STEM field should be allowed into the country. That's not to say that others shouldn't, but rather that it should be easier for people with STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) backgrounds to be allowed entrance to the US as well as getting a fast-track to citizenship. I think we need to build the level of support in the US for STEM subject areas, because we're rapidly falling behind in those areas internationally. The United States is not only renowned for its democratic policies, but also for its lead in innovation. If we lose that, we lose a tremendous advantage over other nations.
